928 SURFARI
The 928 Surfari project was created by the Hel Riders team to combine the surfing lifestyle with a passion for Porsche cars. The idea reflects the passion gathered around the Chałupy 6 campsite on the Hel Peninsula and the community spirit among the people who co-create this environment with us.

Unique, extraordinary, and almost impossible to create – this sounded like the inspiration for the Hel Riders team, who set out to create a unique Surfcar. How to do it? Follow the uphill path, strewn with obstacles.
The beginning is great: we have a vintage V8 engine from Porsche. Anyone who’s heard a V8 from the 1980s knows exactly what we’re talking about. Power wasn’t an issue. But how do you adapt the drivetrain and suspension to the muddy terrain? Tomasz Staniszewski, a friend and Hel Riders team member, came to us with the answer. A technical and rallying genius, he completed the Dakar Classic Rally in a Porsche 924 Turbo he built himself. Tomasz knew the project was incredibly difficult and demanding, but he found solutions and got to work to achieve the ultimate goal: to build a 928 with a surfing spirit. The Surfari is the result of a collective effort of local talent. The visual design was handled by the Lange & Lange studio – a duo of twin brothers with years of experience with Chałupy 6. From the raw concept to details like hand-painted stripes, branding, a roof rack, a backpack for transporting and drying wetsuits, and interior accessories.
A vintage F.A. Porsche Design helmet even made an appearance on board, completing this unique package. This story wouldn’t be complete without a surfboard. Our friend, shaper Jędrzej Jankowiak from Polvo Surfboards, created a unique board for the 928, specifically tailored to the Baltic conditions. This board is wider and has an unusual curve that helps in these short, fast waves. On every trip, the board must be on the roof of the 928. Wherever we go, we’re always ready for waves behind the wheel of the Surfari.
After its premiere at the Chałupy 6 campsite during the Hel Riders Festival in 2024, we decided to join our friends and family of surf and car enthusiasts at the Petro Surf on Sylt.
We gathered a team and set off. After two days on the road, Rømø appeared on the horizon. What a perfect place to put the 928 through its paces in its natural habitat!
Being there with everyone involved in the Hel Riders festival and the Surfari project, watching the 928 speed down the beach, was one of the greatest motoring moments we’ve ever shared. The story continues. Stay tuned for the next wave!
